OUR STORY

The Dartford Inn was built in 1949 and featured in the April 1952 issue of Progressive Architecture.  The log cabin style motel is set back on five wooded acres on the Puchyan River.  With the end of WWII Green Lake prepared to return to tourism.  During the war the last of the wood hotels fell to fire or disrepair.  Local businessman J. Harold Bumbe saw the need to provide modern lodging for area tourists.  In planning and design the Dartford would be a masterpiece of what was then known as a Motor Court.  Legend has it that Bumbe called the architect and ask him what he could do with 4,000 utility poles.  Bumbe owned a company that supplied the power companies with poles and when they changed over to cedar poles he was left with the white pine poles.  Over the years there have been five owners, each bringing change and improvements to the property.

THE  GROUNDS

The Dartford Inn sits on over 5 acres of park like space.  The front lawn is large enough to play baseball on. The gazebo is a great place to relaxin the shade or spend a quiet evening with friends.  The dock is on the Pucyan River and is the launch point for our john boat and canoe, it is also a great place to fish.  The playground has swings, slides, a helecopter, a plane and a 1900's merry go round from a one room school.  It is not unusual to see deer on the property, as they water along the river.  There 3 fire pits and many picnic tables with webber grills.  Sit in the log swing and watch the wildlife accross the river.  There is a basketball hoop and we have balls available for play.

It's not new by any means ,but clean rooms great staff, has a pool and a quiet relaxing place to stay. Bring a fishing pole and soak a line, playground for the kids, nice to sit out at night, and lots of natural beauty with nature. I will stay again when in the area.

We had a great time at the dartfordinn inn. It is on a side road and not on a busy highway. It is a quaint friendly place that I would return to over and over again. Best of all, the beds were very comfortable. The people were very friendly and accomadating. If you are down home people and don't always need the designer hotels this place ,is for you. I felt very comfortable here.

It was an older motel, not expecting much, but we had great service and were really impressed by the hands on handling of everything. They gave our boys a limo ride to their baseball game, they thought that was great. Anything you asked, they had an answer. Kids want to go to this tournament again, just to stay at this motel.
